The Apartment Law: Does it really have to be?
We’ve heard a lot about Apartment Law in recent weeks.
But what’s the big deal with Apartment Law?
We don’t need apartment towers in Suriname, do we?
Surely there is enough land to provide for every Surinamese entitled to it?
Right? If we start reorganizing our land in an innovative and sustainable way, so that the land can be used efficiently, the forest can be largely saved.
More than half of the population lives in the coastal region, using a lot of land and leaving little of the forest.
Yet there is still an acute housing shortage.
The call for a sustainable solution to the housing problem is inescapable.
Is the Apartment Law really necessary?
Apartment Law can make a significant contribution to our needs for the sustainable development of good housing and living environments, efficient use of our land and attention to the climate.
In addition, we can accommodate different target groups with Apartment Law.
There are still occupants, students living at home, over-60s who want to live smaller and more efficiently, expats who want to buy or rent luxurious penthouses, our diaspora who want to invest here and entrepreneurs who would like to invest in the construction of residential towers.
Thus, Apartment Law is an urgent necessity in the interest of country and people.
Joël Terzol will elaborate on this at the Terzol Real Estate Land Congress with the theme of Apartment Law.
Joël Terzol is CEO of Terzol Vastgoed NV and Project Developer of Ring Harbour City.
Since 2020, Terzol has published a series of articles under the name “Grondzaken Nader Belicht” (s.a. Domain Land, Land Conversion, Land Tax and Apartment Law).
